Ignition Control Module

In the old days, car owners were all too familiar with how the ignition system works. They had to know also knew how to set proper engine timing, to ensure their cars ran well performed properly. Nowadays, modern cars are so much more complex, the presence of advanced ignition technology in modern cars taking takes away certain responsibilities from car owners. This includes knowledge of basic ignition system functions.

Do you know how the ignition control module works? Take the distributor, for instance. Inside it lies the ignition control module whichocated inside the distributor, the module switches controls the flow of high-voltage current to your the car’s spark plugs. Symptoms of a bad module include the engine cutting suddenly and being hard to start when warm. Once the module receives a signal from the engine control unit, the module either opens or closes the circuit that powers the ignition coil.

One of the most common causes of ignition control module failure is excessive heat. Since Tthe module is heat- sensitive, that’s why silicone paste has to beis applied in between it the module and its mounting surface. on the distributor to prevent excess heat transfer and damage.

Once the silicone paste has dried up and solidified.s, though, you might be needing a new control module for the ignition system.
