Body Mount Bushings

Thursday, August 12, 2010

The suspension system plays an important role not only in handling, but in comfort as well.
When you’re driving over rough roads, this system keeps you sitting comfortably by absorbing any impact the tires make. Aside from the shock absorbers and leaf springs, however, there’s still one particular component that’s also responsible for stabilizing your car: the body mount bushings.

Underneath the floor panel, your car’s body sits against the frame on several bushings, which absorb the vibrations caused by driving over bumps. By preventing the mounting points from getting jarred, these bushings protect the body against damage.

However, road salt, heat, and dust can cause the body mount bushings to become brittle. And damaged bushings won’t be of much use, even if you’re driving on flat roads.
